The Hastings Jingle & Mingle 2018 took place the first weekend of December.
Events started Friday with the Arts and Crafts show at the library and the lighting of the Manger on the Court House lawn. Events took place through out downtown Friday through Sunday. The weather was rainy off and on but it didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone who came out.
Santa was available for all the children to give him their wish list. There was even a spot on Saturday where you could mail a letter to Santa – just to make sure he got your toy request.
The Nutcracker was performed at the Thornapple Plaza on Saturday by Expressions Dance Centre. They did a beautiful job even if it was cold.
There were horse drawn carriage and wagon rides offered and all had a great time.
Cookies and pancakes were enjoyed by those who came to see Santa on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday at the library, kids visited Santa, had a cookie and got their faces painted while listening to the Chime choir from Grace Lutheran Church.
It’s a Chili Winter” chili cook off took place on Sunday at various locations around town. It was a good time to meet merchants and see a bit of their stores while sampling chili of all kinds.
A highlight of the festivities was the night time parade on Saturday. “Light up the Night” was the theme this year which featured Matt Williams. So many well done floats and no parade is complete without the firetrucks. Santa closed out the parade on the back of the Holly Trolley.
Restaurants around town have special menus or special deals for this Christmas kickoff.
Santa’s reindeer came on Sunday to say hello to everyone. Did you know that all reindeer have antlers? Even the girl reindeer have them!
