New Years Eve in Hastings 2016 to 2017.
This was an event filled night.
Ice Sculpture was carved on site in front of Second Hand Corners. 4 cheerful snow people are in Hastings to greet one and all.
Disc Jockey Jon Anderson started at 9 p.m. while the warming tenet was open for children of all ages to make a craft, play a game or listen to music by Ben Jammin’.
There was street dancing all evening by all ages. Hot chocolae was available from the Cub & Boy Scouts.
Tony LaJoye Trio started performing on stage at 11:30.
At 11:59 p.m. Dave McIntyre, Mayor Frank Campbell and Mayor-elect David Tossava began the countdown to the new year. The New Years’ Ball came down from the corner of The Walldorff.
At Midnight, the Ball stopped and everyone sang Auld Lang Syne and fireworks were set off from the top of The Walldorff.
Next was the Oath of Office by Mayor-Elect David Tossava to officially start his term as Mayor of Hastings.
At the new Thornapple Plaza the first run/walk of 2017 started. Runners and walkers took the route along the Thornapple River to the East for a 2.017 mile round trip with luminaries to show the way.
This was a memorable way to say “good-bye” to 2016 and “welcome” to 2017 in Hastings.
